    Getting Started with DLNA

Having a DLNA-compatible phone, like the DROID X2 means that you can:

    • Stream music, video and photos from your DROID X2 to any DLNA device such as a Playstation 3, XBOX, or a DLNA-capable TV, PC or A/V Receiver.
    • Send a picture from your DROID X2 to your PC
    • Send an MP3 from the phone to the PC
    • Stream a Video from DROID X2 to the TV using the handset as a controller
    • Browse the Videos stored on your PC using your DROID X2 and then stream it over to your TV using your HDMI cable and the DLNA app.

The DROID X2 offers two applications to help you share your media with other DLNA devices:

Media Share: The Media Share app is a DLNA connection wizard that will guide you through the easy setup steps for connecting your phone to other DLNA devices. If you're new to DLNA devices and how they work, start here. Media Share makes using the DLNA app simpler.

DLNA Application: This app lets you expand the ways you can enjoy your photos and videos on a DLNA Certified HDTV or monitor, using your own Wi-Fi network. The DLNA app is what enables your DROID X2 to connect to other DLNA devices.

    What you will need:

    1. You need a home network -- wired or wireless -- DLNA Certified devices today connect, discover and communicate with each other over a home network. The DROID X2 will require a wireless network. Other DLNA devices may work with just a wired connection.
    2. Other DLNA Certified products that available today, such as TVs, PCs, Gaming consoles, and much more. Once you have those connected to your home network, you can start sharing your media between them and your DROID X2.

Use Media Share to configure DLNA

Media Share gives you an easy way to share your media content—photos, videos, and tunes—with friends and family. You can share personal videos, pictures and more with your computer or gaming console or any device that is DLNA capable. The Media Share application already installed on your DROID X2 gives you a quick and easy way to access other DNLA devices. The Media Share wizard guides you through the easy setup steps for connecting your DNLA devices to your DROID X2.

Share your media via DLNA devices:

Swap photos & videos: Share any photos or videos on your phone, even the ones you created. Or, if you want, see your photos and videos in HD quality on an HDTV or monitor.

More tunes: Enjoy favorites from your phone playlist on your the sound system at home. Or get music from your portable music player and add it to your phone's music library.

    Restrictions

    • DRM protected content is not supported.
    • You cannot view Blockbuster video or You Tube application video through DLNA.
    • You cannot view/send MS Powerpoint or Excel files directly with DLNA, however, you can take edited screen shots (use your computers' screen shot functionality) of your PPT presentation slides or Excel graphs and put the image files on your SDcard as a photo slidehow that would view over DLNA.
    • Some devices you are playing DROID X2 content with through DLNA might not support the content captured by the DROID X2 handset (such as a WMA audio file from the SDcard or a 3GPP video from the videocamera). You computer or television might need a certain driver or codec to play that file. You may ultimately need to convert the format of that media file with another program so both devices can play the file properly
