Ever had the poor experience that you tired to transfer AVCHD 1080 60p or 50p files to Avid Media Composer for further edit work, but the program cannot ingest the AVCHD footages at all? Here we’d like to analyze the AVCHD to Avid MC importing trouble and offer the easiest solution.
Situation one: Import 1080 50p AVCHD to Avid MC on Mac
I have recently bought a Panasonic HD camcorder TM900 and got some 1080/50p AVCHD files. When I try to import clips into My Avid MC 5.3, I get a message; "this mpeg is not supported." I was told that Avid solved in problem of importing .mts files in version 5. Does anyone has a solution?
As a matter of fact, 1080p50 is a non-standard frame rate. Avid doesn't work with it. 1080i50...yes, as that is 25fps at 1080. The only 50p format that Avid works with is 720p. Because it is a format that doesn't really have a delivery model. That format really only exists to get smooth slow motion (converting the 50p into 25p) other than that not really a "real" format. That's why Avid doesn't work with it.
Situation two: Bring 1080p 60p AVCHD to Avid MC on Mac
I wanted to edit the 1080 60p recordings from Sony Nex 7 in Avid MC 5. But I couldn’t successfully importing the videos to MC with AMA. Any idea?
According our multi-testing, Avid doesn't do 1080p60. Very few NLE's do. FCP doesn't do 1080p60 either. Actually, 60fps at 1080 is a non-standard format and Avid only works with standard film and broadcast formats. 1080p60 is meant as a way to shoot a frame rate intended to be slowed down to make smoother slow motion. You can't edit 1080p60 AVCHD clips in Avid.
