You may get a lot of MKV files downloaded online or ripped from Blu-rays. When editing these MKV videos with Final Cut Pro on Mac, you'll often run into troubles like import error, poor color or quality. Actually, MKV is not an ideal format for editing purpose. FCP lacks support for MKV. Instead, raw clips like Apple ProRes 422 (*.mov), Apple ProRes 4444 (*.mov) perform much better. Thus, it's not optional but a must to decode your MKV to Final Cut Pro favorite ProRes codec if you want to achieve the best results.
